I think you can use the Oxford inflator as a clipper only plugin by turning on the red clip 0 db button and turning down the effects slider all the way with effect green light on. Use the input gain to push the signal into the clipper and adjust output as necessary. The effects slider I believe is used to add saturation.
Check out the manual so you get a full understanding. The input value is just a typical input slider however you can overdrive the plugin for distortion: media.uaudio.com/support/manuals/dd/Oxford%20Inflator%20Manual.pdf
Hello there, I got a software project running and im pretty new to the field of audio. Using some techniques such as stft and stuff, i get phase and magnitude of a particular sample but i wanna know how the phase values exactly evolve so is it possible for u to help me out in this? Your help would be appreciated, thanks
I'm not sure I understand your question...
good one dude! Cheers!
Thank you
Hey Boss thank you for this video. I'm wondering why you're not adding the effects as inserts on the "TRACK" track. Also how would you go about integrating outboard gear to that mastering template?
Because that’s typically not where I put them. I do everything in aux sends. Occasionally maybe I’ll add an eq on the track itself but not often. Or I’ll process the wave directly with an audiosuite plugin. Make a aux send called hardware and route your chain externally. Same thing
Great demo, thanks. I bought the UAD Pultec bundle recently, and it's very good at this. I've yet to have the plug-in blow up because I wasn't supposed to boost and attenuate at the same time. I used a UAD sale build your own 5 combo, Pultec bundle, Distressor, Manley Massive Passive, Fairchild, Century pre at $49 each.
Glad I could help!
Could you please let us know if you deactivate the reverb before calibrating? Thanks for the video!
What reverb are you referring to? In your session? Calibrate without is my recommendation.
What reverb are you referring to? Calibrate without reverb.

dosent mixing too quiet just as bad for your mixes....?
It’s good to reference at different levels. Mixing quietly can tell you if something is too loud easily because it will be poking out.
really well explained. TIL what a Phon is, which is kinda hilarious. I didn't know the unique perception of being human can be quantized

sadly didn't work for me, but I was using both instruments and vocals from the original song using FL's stem seperator. I even pitched everything up ~100 semitones
It’s not perfect and I feel like SoundCloud has gotten better but you might try it in each .1 increments until it does
Awesome, thanks for the learning.
No problem 👍
You have to be a special ed kid to not use a system wide solution
In Ableton, you can set the SoundReference ID driver as the audio output rather than using the plugin on the master channel. This prevents forgetting to enable the plugin and avoids zero dB calibration issues caused by the plugin's safety room. You can still use your sound card as the input, with routing handled in the SoundReference main settings. This method allows for accurate speaker calibration, and with the SoundID icon, you can easily switch correction profiles when changing speakers, eliminating resampling problems.
If I had known this earlier, it would have saved me so much time. Thank you! That saferoom and zero problem was driving me crazy. Thanks a million!
Yes I've done this before but this is likely not how most people are using it so I thought I'd share a tip on this for people that do use the plug in version. I am not currently doing it this way though I may try again. I will have to test this as I have a bit of a complicated routing I setup to record the videos with the Sonarworks running in my environment but not to the recording. However I'm running into an issue with solo's not being sent to the video at the moment. Thank you for the fantastic comment.
@@DistinctMastering Aside from routing that requires the inputs and outputs of your sound card (such as an analog compressor or other hardware), you will occasionally need to use plugins. However, beyond that, you will quickly understand the advantages, especially when it comes to zero-latency monitoring in Ableton and using the saferoom on the physical output of your sound card. This setup eliminates issues with LUFS during mastering and prevents unpleasant surprises. Even a deviation of ±1dB at -7 LUFS can make a significant difference, often not for the better.
Wow, very useful information for sonarworks users. I'll take in count
Yes 🙌🏼
I have Neumann speakers and the room correction is all built into the speakers itself :)
Very nice. 👍🏼
I have a couple of neumann kh120 in a treated room and sonarworks even improves the sound a bit, the low end seems like better tuned

I'm using Wave Arts Tube Saturator 2 & there's no analog button. I'm stuck with this build up of hissing in my mix. Do you know a fix?
Might not be the waves plug in. First find the culprit track then determine whats causing it. Thats your best bet.
should i use it on kick snare and bass? i understand that i shouldn't
I would not use it on a kick or bass you want to keep those in the center. For snares def have a snare grounded in the center but if you have layers maybe try.
@@DistinctMastering amazing, thanks

Hello, Thanks for explaining. For mixing sessions, do you recomend RMS or K meters? I use RMS as it shows the average loudness, but does K Metering also shows the average loudness?
I use K Metering for gain staging, check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/-eq9nAPj5yY/v-deo.html For overall loudness I use RMS still and LUFS. I use two different loudness meters for various things. K metering I use during the production process.
I think Wehbba used it on his Kicks if I'm not mistaken. Already purchased it. 😁
It's a good one! I should try it on a kick, drum thanks for that!
can you not colour code markers like in Logic?

Hi, in just wondering, does the hiss introduce anything else that is beneficial to a mix or is it just artificial hiss added on top? Basically, will turning it off make you lose anything?
It won’t make you lose anything but the inherent hiss it adds. You may want the hiss like old analog hardware but for a lot of genres it can not be helpful as well. Up to you!
Excellent tips presented thanks for sharing 🔥😎
Thanks for watching!
Ableton sucks for tracking
I agree I prefer to track in Pro Tools,.
SO essentially all you need is 2 stock EQ's in serial. EQ 1. A wide bell (right side with 500hz coverage) boost to desired db amount. EQ 2. Low cut approximately the left half of the bell in the 1st EQ. Adjust EQ 2 to match frequency changes in EQ 1....correct?
500 hz is too high. I was not able to get the same “exact” shape with an eq but yes essentially all it is is an eq. You could essentially get the same effect using eqs it just gives you a different interface.
I've noticed with Devil-Loc & Devil-Loc Deluxe (Licensed Version 5.4.1) you get inconsistent results when the crush dial is set between 5-10, regardless of the type of sample you feed into it or any other parameter the plugin is set to. Between 7-9 it will change the phase and amplitude of the signal with undesirable results, producing an inconsistent limiting/gating to the signal. When dialing crush to between 8-10, distortion and saturation dissapears and the signal reduces in amplitude. While this design may be intentionally modelled around the characteristics of the Shure Level-Loc controller ("Capture the raw and unpredictable nature of the offbeat Level-Loc compressor"), and suitable in the context of sound design, consistent behaviour is important for creating music. Having discovered these characteristics It renders the plugin practically useless and unpredictable when driven hard. I certainly wouldnt use it on a drum bus or in a parallel chain, yet ironically Soundtoys market Devil-loc around making drums sound big and exciting.
That’s super interesting thanks for sharing that! I’ll have to check that out.
👍
Thanks 🙏
so yea exactly what i thought....i made a rack in ableton that does this as a send but after watching this video...im about to make it dynamic so it will actually spike upon signal.
Make sure to gain stage it
@@DistinctMastering im doing this on two track beats...so its kinda not an option. instead i just use a multiband compressor on the track and lower the lows and then use a dynamic eq as a send to boost 50-60 hz...or whereever the kick is...i made this last night and it works perfectly
so its a filter basically...with a curve.....hmm
It’s an eq basically with a different interface.
Love the sub filter! I use it all the time! Being all in the box, even with tracking, it gives me that low end oomph I need.
It worked for that track
